Eleven separate books. Complete. A shiveringly lovely, handsome set of Prescott's history works. PERFECT for any library (public or private). In good to Very Good condition. ALL are leather bound with gilt titling and decoration. The reference number refers to all eleven books. The publication is for the earliest in the set - the Conquest of Peru. All have marbled end papers. All have an ex-libris plate noting former ownership of Herbert B Cohen (of the extinct Cohen baronetcy). All volumes have been trimmed in scarlet. All volumes have five ridges on the spine. The gilt is fresh and clean. "History of the Conquest of Peru, with a preliminary view of the Civilization of the Incas" : two volumes : third edition : published by Richard Bentley, London, 1848. Both vols in clean, very healthy condition. "History of the Conquest of Mexico, with a preliminary view of the Ancient Mexican Civilization and the life of the conqueror, Hernando Cortes" ; two volumes ; second edition ; pub: Routledge, Warne, and Routledge, London 1865. The early pages have age-foxing. From thereon the contents are benign and generous. The covers have some mild shelving wear. "History of the Reign of Charles the Fifth (by William Robertson) with an account of The Emperor's Life After His Abdication (by Prescott) ; two volumes ; first British edition ; pub: George Routledge & Co., London, 1857. The boards have some shelving wear. Within the contents are mild-mannered, companionable and clubbable. The papertrims have mild wear. "History of the Reign of Philip the Second, King of Spain". NB: this set is of irregular combination : Volumes One and Two published by Routledge, Warne and Routledge, London, 1860. Second Edition. These state a set of TWO volumes. Volume Three of this set published by George Routledge and Sons, London and New York (no date but the publisher's title and address indicated pre-1860 - probably mid-1850s) : This states a set of three volumes. This volume three DOES NOT duplicate content (it ends with the death of Anne of Austria). One can assume a full set was sourced for the owner's library. All are benign and elegant. The boards have shelving wear, but the contents are dignified and confident, clean and assured. "History of the Reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, the Catholic, of Spain" : two volumes ; new revised edition : George Routledge and Sons (Ludgate), London 1867. Both books are neat, smart and dignified. The boards have shelving wear to the edges. The contents are well-mannered, sure and tidy. These books have been wonderfully maintained, carefully owned and still bring an immense amount of pleasure of use and ownership. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
