115 pages (complete). In Hungarian throughout. A very good copy of this VERY RARE book that is central to the story of Hungarian nationalism. Makkai's book, written in 1914, was picked up during the inter-war period as an essential text to the expression of Hungarian-Transylvanian nationalism. Bethlen Gabor, one time king of Hungary and Prince of Transylvania, led anti-Habsburg uprisings and revolts during the seventeeth century. His enlightened autocracy left an indelible trace upon his country (for example he instituted the right of a serf's children to education). This rare copy of Makkai (an historian who died in Cluj (in what is now Romania and ironically a central point to the modern Romanian revolution) in 1923 is is smartly rebound in half leather and board. The book has a thick, sensitively affixed, clear plastic protective cover. The cover beneath has some wear to the extremities and head and foot of the spine. Nonetheless, the cover and the binding are secure, sure and very healthy. Marbled frontis and end papers. The frontis illustration protection sheet is unfoxed and silky. The initial pages have mild marking. The pages are firm, thick, very confident, tidy, neat and smart. The end pages have rebinding repair along the guttering. The thickly stitched binding is very secure and friendly. A RARE IMPORTANT book. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
