Complete. A very rare copy of this bound edition of all 12 issues of the first year of the short lived cultural magazine. What was remarkable about the magazine was that it was the first to enable the writing of local Colonial authors: "The main object proposed at starting [of the magazine] was to elicit the writing power of our own people, and to do something, in a small way, towards establishing a Colonial Literature. One result has been that Authors, unknown before, have taken up their pens, and have given some interesting illustrations of Colonial life." Previous owner signature (James Buchanan, the Cape Colonial Judge) on the first free page. A sturdy copy. The boards are scruffy. They are much worn, scuffed, marked all about from age, shelving, handling and storage. However, they are also steady and sure. Newer end papers. The papertrims have storage and age marks. The contents too have age-related, handling marks and sprinkles of foxing fore and aft. Whilst there are sporadic incidences of foxing, the contents are generally and by far, mild, clean and clear, companionable, affable, amenable, certain, comfortable. fk.
