Eybers - the Afrikaans writer and educationalist). The boards have some wear to edges and corners from shelving and handling. They have some light marks, scuffing. The spine has wear to head and foot. The boards and spine are steady and sure. The guttering along the frontispage is cracked. The security of the book is unaffected. The pages are thick, very clean and clear, healthy. Volume II: "The Cape Colony from 1828 to 1846, Natal from 1824 to 1845, and Proceedings of the Emigrant Farmers from 1836 to 1847". Fourth edition. The boards have a clear plastic protective cover (scruffy). The boards have shelving wear about the edges. The end papers have mild wear from use and age. Previous owner stamp on the frontispage. The papertrims are tanned. The pages are comfortable, clean, clear, competent, benevolent. Volume III: "The Cape Colony from 1846 to 1860, Natal from 1845 to 1857, British Kaffraria from 1847 to 1860, and the Orange River Sovereignty and the Transvaal Republic from 1847 to 1858." The title page indicates this copy to be the Third Edition, the copyright indicates it to be the Fourth Edition (1927). Unlike the other books in this set, the boards scarlet. They have light wear about the edges and corners, head and foot of the spine, from shelving. The boards are steady. They have light storage marks and scuffing. The boards are steady. The papertrims are speckled with foxing. The early pages have rashes of foxing. Overwhelmingly, the pages are agreeably clean, clear, certain, neat, fresh, assured. Second Edition. Previous owner signature on the opp-title page. The boards have light shelving wear, storage marks, scuffing. They are steady and sure. The papertrims are tanned. The pages have tanning about the rims. They are otherwise certain, clean and clear, convivial. Volume V: "The Cape Colony and Natal to 1872, Griqualand West to 1880, Great Namaqualand, Damaraland, Transkei, Tembuland, and Griqualand East to 1885, Pondoland and the Portuguese Territory to 1894". Published by Swan Sonnenschein & Co., Lim, London, 1910. Second Edition. Signed by GW Eybers on the frontispage. The boards have wear about the edges and corners, head and foot of the spine, from shelving and storage. They are lightly scuffed and rubbed. As the guttering along the frontispage is cracked, the front board feels loose. They are otherwise sound, sturdy. The papertrims are tanned.
